Liz Neilson is and American photographer based in Brooklyn. She is best known for her work in photograms. In this piece she used black and white paper to create an image, highlighting the light areas of he photo. She calls this ' painting with light'. This photo is unusual to me because it looks more like a drawing than an image. I don’t really feel much when i look at this image as there isn’t much going on and there is no colour included. I would attempt to make this by cutting out black pieces of paper and sticking them on white paper. I think out of the two images this one is my favourite because i like how the artist made the photogram look like a drawing made from black markers.

Geraldo de Barros is a Brazilian painter and photographer. In this image i can see a tree the has pieces missing from it. I think that it is an unusual photo because it looks like an edit. I don’t really like this image because its very random and it doesn’t really make much sense to me.

In this video, Dafna Talmor expresses her opinions on constructed landscapes. She says there is 'no perfect frame when it comes to landscapes and there is this overwhelming sense of no limitations'. She says she 'has been always interested in a utopian space', an ideal space that does not exist, only imagined. Talmor constructs her own landscapes without any limitations as she mentions being overwhelmed and frustrated by them. She became inspired by this giving her images personal connotations, to create an ideal utopian landscape.

This film is an example of a constructed landscape, because Dionne Lee is taking her original images and cutting them and ripping them up to form a new 'constructed' landscape.

This landscape is called Tanah Lost Sunset and it comes from Fong's series named 'Time is a Dimension'.
At first glance i am very drawn to the various shapes and colours, as Fong uses the very light colours from earlier times of the day to highlight the main landmark or building he has photographed, which then slowly progress into darker colour, forming a gradient. He manipulates the light by the way he a decided to position the different times of day. In doing this, it creates the illusion of a burst of sunlight shining through the clouds and illuminating the ocean and the small island. Fong often uses colours like yellows, blue and reds, and mixes of these colours. |
